Here is one you don’t see very often! Hamilton Bowen Customized Colt DA revolvers are extremely hard to find, as Hamilton freely admits he does not fee as though he has enough of a background in rebuilding their actions. This one came to Hamilton already very nicely tuned, and converted from the British .455 to 45 Colt. As Hamilton put it on his post about this gun, on his site, in 2008, “We were presented with a tired but serviceable .455 New Service that had been converted to .45 Colt reasonably well many years ago. The lock work was in first-class condition with a tight even double-action cycle and nice, crisp 4-5 lb. single-action pull. Hamilton took the project one, cutting the barrel back to a handy 4”, fitting it with one of his great windage adjustable front sights. Then dressing up the cylinder with his fabulous Blackpowder Chamfer, and having the gun thoroughly re-dressed, with all markings re-marked, re-engraved, and beautifully prepped and blued, with peacock blue accents and Turnbull colored hammer. The gun was fitted with a killer set of Colt Factory Deluxe style wood grips from the pre-war years after leaving Hamilton’s shop, they really are the cherry on top of this one! This piece would be a cornerstone of most custom Colt Revolver collections, Hamilton took on very little Colt DA work.
