1996 Ed Brown Full House custom Longslide 1911 -- 2-Tone 45 ACP
Ed Brown, a long standing cornerstone of the Custom 1911 industry spent many decades on his craft. He passed away in late 2024 but not without an impressive legacy of custom pistols, quality custom parts, and a family run business that he started as a part time shop in 1968, and 20 years later would become his full time passion. In 1980, he began competing in practical shooting disciplines like IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) and the Bianchi Cup. He achieved notable success, ranking in the Top 16 worldwide as a championship combat shooter at the 1983 IPSC World Shoot. His competitive experience highlighted the shortcomings of available 1911 parts, which were often of inconsistent or subpar quality for demanding use.
On March 30, 1988, he left his day job as a precision machinist to focus full-time on parts manufacturing and Custom pistolsmithing. His early offerings included high-demand items like a high grip beavertail grip safety, magwell, and extended thumb safety. This pistol built in 1998 came right towards the end of Brown building guns on other companies guns, including Colt, Springfield, Caspian and this one a Les Baer.
This longslide is beautifully crafted, fit with a full Compliment of Brown’s custom parts, including his safeties, Match barrel and match internals. Frame to slide fit is wonderful, and smooth to operate. With the name Hunter-Target it was clear what this gun was meant to do, and I would love to take out and whack some long steel with it! The finish on this gun is beautiful, high polished bluing over brushed hardchrome. This pistol was the very end of truly one-off customs from Ed Brown, as in 2000 they transitioned to a semi-custom shop with cataloged models/specs/options. The Beautiful gun is topped with a great set of custom Walnut by Bob Hall.
