Rarely Seen 1955 Smith & Wesson Model 1950 Army -- Factory Letter -- One of 3976 MFG!
This is a great example of a very hard-to-find Smith Revolver. The post-war 1917, introduced in 1950, and named the Model 1950 Army 45 Caliber, Smith & Wesson produced just shy of 4000 of these beauties (over 1000 less than Registered Magnums!). This model featured the enhanced post war short action with safety features S&W implemented during the second World War, They were all 5.5” with the satin ‘Highway Patrolman’ blued finish. This example is complete with an Archive letter and one moon clip. Gun is in good condition with nice, smooth action, mild carry wear, original numbered grips. interestingly, this gun shipped to Quantico in 1955, to Evaluators Limited, they were a well known source for S&W’s. Of note they would ‘Evaluate’ guns before selling them, returning anything that did not pass muster, they were also instrumental in the development of the model 15 revolver.
