A very interesting First year transitional Colt Commercial, Colt started adding the 1911A1 improvements in 1924. This gun reflects those early improvements including the finger reliefs, new short triggers, Arched MSH’s and new grip safety. Colt in the pre-war years offered factory front strap checkering that was engraved on the front strap on a bias, like the MSH checkering, this gun has non-factory checkering done in that style, someone likely did not want to pay the princely sum of $2 to have Colt do it. This gun was also tightened up some in the frame to slide interface, and the barrel is a later Colt part with welded and refit barrel feet. Someone built a National Match before Colt was! The gun wears much of its beautiful pre war bluing, and comes with a proper pre-war mag. One mystery is the small holes drilled and tapped either side of the frame under the grips, perhaps for mounting a weight under the grips ? Anyone that knows, let me know! Very cool, very vintage Custom Colt regardless.
