1939 Colt New Service - DW Kings Super Target Custom -- 38 Special
The DW King Super Target Conversion, and really their whole catalog of handgun customizations would set in motion a whole industry, maybe two. Custom Modern Handguns were not really a thing much prior to DW Kings, and Dean King leaned into these custom parts and modifications like no one else in his time. With ala-carte modifications, parts available to customers and other gunsmiths, and full work-up’s like the Super Target. This Colt New Service dates to 1939, and was likely sent to Kings about that same time. King’s fit the revolver with their first class adjustable rear sight, which flowed into the floating ventilated rib, culminating up front with the Kings red post and reflector base. These guns not only looked like nothing else anyone had ever seen, they performed like it too. This New Service has a great action job, and the Kings cock-eyed hammer spur added. The gun is still tight and smooth as it was all those years ago, bore and chambers are clean. Gun wears a set of Murad Pointer grips, King’s marketed these grips in their catalogs in the day, they were the first injection-molded handgun grips ever marketed! This gun has light wear from her near ninety years in the sun, but remains in very high condition.
