1988 Ed Brown Custom Maxi-Comp - 45 ACP
Easily one of the Hottest Comp-guns in the game in the mid-late 1980s was the Full Profile Maxi-Comp setup from Ed Brown. Before Ed was building bobtailed commanders and special forces, he was building top shelf competitive handguns on customer’s base guns. This Springfield 1911 shipped in March of 1988, and was likely built by Ed that next year (barrel dated 1989) the year after Brown’s MaxiComp took the cover of Handgunner magazine. See scans of Ed’s old catalog, and of that Handgunner article. This gun is still tight and slick, pinned beavertail is revertable. The gun in my opinion has been refinished in full chrome, it was likely full blued, and competed with wearing the blue off. Chrome has a few light pecks in the finish on the LH side of the comp, but overall the gun is in great shape.
