Bill Wilson Custom Early -- Built 1980 -- Colt Combat Commander 45 ACP
A classic, very early Wilson Combat Custom Colt here, this 1978 Colt Combat Commander was built in Berryville in late 1980, BarSto Barrel dated 10/80. This build is a very nice spec, with Bomar sights, BarSto Match barrel and bushing, Swenson Ambi Safety, Ejection port and reliability work done. Great trigger job on modified Colt ignition parts, light carry bevel and nice magwell bevel. The frame and slide fit is tight with only slight wiggle. By 1980 or so, Bill had hired a gunsmith (Dave Coley) and a young Ron Phillips to help out and after they moved out of the jewelry shop they built some of the finest guns of the 80's while Bill focused on the business side. (After 1980 Bill rarely touched a gunsmithing job). This is a rare opportunity to get a gun by the man himself, and it remains in superb condition. This gun is marked under the slide “Wilson No 4”, Per Bill this was done to match slides back to the frame and parts, “the #4 was just that it was in build job box #4” As this early on, they were farming out machining to a machine shop (Bomar Cut)
