Richard Heinie Full House Custom -- Colt Combat Commander
This wonderful little Colt left Hartford in 1973, just 7 years later, in 1980 it was masterfully transformed into this Full House Custom by one of the best to run a file in the 1980s and 90s, Richard Heinie. Richard Heinie started working on 1911’s like many did, thru his desire to tune the platform for LEO’s and competitors in his local community, many Illinois cops went to him for tune ups, trigger and sight work. He hit the big time when he got his first write up, in American Handgunner in September of 1977. This pistol, with a 1980 dated Barsto was built when he really had his steam up and was producing what I would argue were some of his best pieces. One unique note about Richard’s work is his numbering system, numbering all his builds, this one is #RH123.
Heinie Started heavily marketing his in house designed sights in 1982, so to find one with a Bomar is much less common than the fixed Heinie sight. This gun is really in fantastic shape inside and out for a Custom carry gun that someone ordered 45+ years ago! Other than a couple small bits of holster wear and the takedown scratch it is super clean. Richard sites his main influences as Armand Swenson early on (note the use of Swenson’s Ambi Safety in this build), and then Jim Hoag. This pistol is a clear Homage to Hoag, and if it weren’t marked Heinie everyone would look at it and say ‘That’s a Hoag’, its really that well done! From the low-slung Bomar, tight Barsto, Finely checkered rear of the slide, and perfectly bordered front strap checkering, and don’t overlook the perfectly forged square trigger guard and Hoag beavertail…. it screams of Jim’s influence on Richard’s work. Gun comes as shown with Colt grips, and one Hardchrome mag with Pachmayr base pad.
