Anthony ‘Tony’ Barnes is probably the best 1911 Smith of the last 2000’s that nobody’s heard of. This gun is superbly fit and built to a great spec for a carry gun, when one of the greatest supporters of the cottage custom gun industry wanted a new carry gun built he looked no farther than his own backyard. Tony operated out of the small town of Montezuma Iowa, near Brownell’s facility. It is important to note, Frank had custom 1911’s from the best in the business, and lots of them, but he chose Barnes Custom to build this, what would become his carry and bedside gun. Tony looks to have hung up his files a few years ago, but this gun is a shining example of his craft. Built on a 1976/77 Colt Combat Commander, nothing has been overlooked. Work includes:

This gun bears so many of the same influences that molded my own style including Rogers, Yost, CT Brian, all brought together and beautifully fit. I have confirmed the lineage of this gun with a close friend of Frank’s and will try to see if I can get in touch with Tony too.
